In Their Own Words

"We look at the resources we have and link them through community collaborators. Student-parents do internships with the agencies in areas like vibrant neighborhoods, environmental health, wellness, literacy and human rights. As part of the internships, we work with them to write grants to support their education. Then they are often hired back into the community. One agency hired four promotoras, and now they are doing 500 home health visits.

"There is a lot of attention paid to hiring staff who share the morals, values, philosophy and commitment to the programs and agencies that build resiliency. Some people are just looking for and 8-5 job. That's not enough."
